FAQ's

Everything you need to know about joining and competing with us.

Do I need experience?

No. We have women who just paddled out for the first time and women who've been charging for decades. Everyone belongs here. You show up, you're in.

How do I join the club?

Head to Liveheats here, sign up and pay your membership fee. Meet at our first comp on the beach on 7 March 2026, from 7am, where you will be handed your exclusive BGSR club tee shirt and filled in on everything you need to know.

What if I'm not competitive?

No problem! We're all here to have fun and progress to wherever we wish to go!

How much does it cost?

Earlybird registration costs are:

  • $99 for Gidgets and Juniors (increasing to $109 for rego's recieved after 21 February 2026)
  • $155 for adults (increasing to $165 for rego's recieved after 21 February 2026)
Do I need insurance to surf with BGSR?

You don’t need extra insurance. Registering with us via Liveheats includes affiliation Surfing NSW, which covers you for personal injury during sanctioned events or club activities.

Can I volunteer?

Absolutely. We need help with flags on the day, coffee runs for judges and a bunch of other things that pop up on the day - volunteers are the backbone of what we do.

Get in touch here with the committee and we'll fix you up with things to do!

What do I do on the day?
  • Be on time for you heat - 45 mins or more before
  • Competition heats will be posted on Liveheats with your rashie colour
  • Relax and socialise while you wait for your heat
  • Watch the surf, look for the easy paddle out spots and where the waves are breaking so you are prepared for your heat
  • Our club President, Michelle, will give a welcome briefing before the heats start
  • Feel free to watch the judging, we always need spotters and if you are keen to learn we are happy to teach you
  • If you are a parent of a Gidget/Junior member, please stick around
  • Have fun!
