About BGSR

The only all-female boardriders club on Sydney's eastern beaches

Surfing is better with more girls in the water!

Established in 1999, Bondi Girls Surf Riders is a proud all-female surf club based at Bondi Beach, created to give women of all ages and abilities a safe, supportive and encouraging space to surf, compete and grow.

We meet once a month on Bondi Beach, coming together in a relaxed and welcoming environment designed to build confidence and skills without pressure.

Whether you’re building confidence, refining your technique or chasing competitive goals, you’ll find a community that backs you every step of the way.

Our foundation story

Bondi Girls Surf Riders began in 1999 with a simple but powerful idea: to create a welcoming, all-female space in the surf.

Founded by local Bondi surfer Brenda Miley and a group of like-minded women, the club grew from an informal meeting and a shared belief that women of all ages and abilities deserved their own place in the lineup.

At a time when surfing was largely male-dominated, with limited access and opportunity for women, BGSR set out to change the experience. Built on encouragement, progression and shared stoke, the club quickly became more than a surfing club — it became a community. Today, Bondi Girls Surf Riders remains a proud part of Bondi’s surf culture, championing confidence, camaraderie and a lifelong love of board riding for generations of women.

We are proud to be supported by Brenda and the team at Lets Go Surfing, our primary sponsors, who continue to share and champion this same spirit.

At our core, we are:

A proud all-female club offering a safe and welcoming environment where women of all skill levels can develop their surfing, compete in monthly events, and enjoy a supportive and encouraging community.

We foster growth, friendship, and confidence both in the water and beyond, inspiring our members of all ages to reach their best in a positive and inclusive surf culture.
